Pixi Beauty - Top 5 Post Workout Beauty Products

I have to confess I am now beauty obsessed! I have learnt from my beauty mistakes, and long gone are the days I’d ‘wipe and go,’ and no that isn’t quite how you might picture it to be. Post sweat I would simply pull out a cleansing wipe, believing I was refreshing my skin, removing sweat and cleansing my pores to keep spots at bay. Little did I know; that was my main cause of skin sensitivity, breakouts and redness – all because of the alcohol in those wipes!

Harley Street Emporium states that ‘Alcohol strips away excess oil, it leaves skin feeling matt and oil-free. But in reality it may be having the opposite effect, triggering oil production and actually making your acne worse.

Aesthetic nurse practitioner Shirley Nichol, an expert on acne treatment, describes alcohol wipes as her “pet hate”. She explains that the alcohol in the wipes does actually does the opposite of what you want it to do – it increases the production of sebum – the oil in the skin – as well as damaging the epidermis, the skin’s protective layer.

“What I see when I look at the skin of people who use wipes, they tend to have a thin and irritated epidermis,” she says. “To treat acne you need to correct the pH of the skin, reduce sebum production and reduce bacteria on the surface of the skin.”

“Alcohol feels like it is cleansing because it leaves skin feeling matt but it is very drying, which actually stimulates sebum production.”’

Having had my skin looked at by Shirley, with her kindly informing me I had the skin of a 50 year old, I have as a result massively re-evaluated my beauty routine! Here are my top 5 post sweat must and my routine.

  1. Obagi Cleanser around £50.00

At the moment, I am using their 360-exfoliator cleanser and although I am not a fan of the beads in this cleanser, as a) they are annoying and hard to remove when washing your face and b) I am pretty sure the beads aren’t dissolvable and adding to environmental issues, however their range does really work and I have seen large improvements in my skin since following their 360 range in the morning and evening. Instead, I will be swapping to a different product in their collection, as I personal don’t want to be using the beads anymore, but looking for something with similar ingredients. This cleaner at present helps to reveal a smoother, more radiant complexion through gentle exfoliation. A combination of exfoliants that remove dead cells and unblock pores, while also reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and hyper-pigmentation. I am looking to change to the Foaming Gel Cleanser No.1 which is a gentle foaming cleanser that cleans and softens the skin without damaging natural moisture levels. Combines a blend of natural ingredients with aloe vera for a luxurious treatment.

Obagi Nu-Derm Foaming Gel is recommended for normal to oily skin. It deep cleans the skin and removes excess oil without stripping it of moisture.

  2. Pixi Glow Tonic £10.00/£18.00

After I have cleansed, I use Pixi’s Glow Tonic as a toner, it contains a ingredient called glycolic acid, which helps to exfoliate with anti-inflammatory properties, leaving your skin with an added glow and helps to prevent those dark circles,  soothing skin concerns like acne in the process.Pixi Beauty Glow Tonic

  3. Pixi Beauty’s Rose Oil £26.00

Once I have cleansed and toned I move on to Pixi beauty’s Rose Oil Blend, and without sounding like a typical beauty blogger – it does smell amazing! The botanical blend is infused with youth-preserving oils to help improve skin’s elasticity and glow. Sweet almond, rosehip, jojoba, pomegranate seed, and rose geranium oils nourish the skin leaving it feeling super soft and refreshed. It does take a little while to absorb, but it has excellent results.

  4. Obagi 360 SPF 30 £54.95

Something you need to be adding daily is an SPF, it prevents UVA/B rays getting through and ageing your skin and this is one I have been using for a while now. It seems to last well (you are meant to reapply throughout the day) and is easily absorbed into my skin. Try and aim for a ‘broadspectrum’ SPF (so it protects from UVA&B) with a factor 30 or higher.

  5. Nannic 3D Miracle Lips with SPF15 £12.95

Just to keep my lips hydrated and soft; I am forever biting my lips and drying them out and this product helps to reduce lines,  hydrate and improve shape a colour – as I never add makeup after I have done all of the above!
