5 SUPER FOODS TO TRY ON YOUR HEALTH & FITNESS JOURNEY
I know you’re probably thinking I know what’s a super food… Big Mac and fries. Yes it sure does taste good and sometimes it’s okay. Everything in moderation and all that. But no, eating processed foods is not going to give your body the nutrients it requires and craves. These 5 superfoods are a great place to start to give you that little kickstart on your fitness journey
Not only is cinnamon delicious, it’s also loaded with antioxidants, helps cut down inflammation, and helps improve sensitivity to insulin. Here’s the catch: The cheap cinnamon you find most often in the supermarket isn’t the best. You’ll want to find Ceylon, which of course is more expensive, and then get used to sprinkling it in your everyday cooking like oats and on some fruit.
Next on our list are blueberries, the antioxidant-rich superfood that contains phytochemicals and vitamins C, K, and manganese. They taste amazing on cereal, in baked goods, smoothies or frozen. Freezing helps keep them for longer as they aren’t the cheapest fruit and they won’t lose any of their goodness!
Now I know you’re picturing your favourite brunch spot. Thinking smashed avocado on toast with poached eggs (yum). Avocados are becoming cheaper in most supermarkets and they’re worth it, they’re packed with healthy fats, folate, vitamin C, and vitamin K. Turn avocados into guacamole, put them on toast, or just put some Himalayan pink salt on them and eat them whole. On a side note as good as avocados are they are very high in calories so make sure you’re monitoring the amount you’re eating and keep it to once or twice a week. Especially if your goal is weight loss
A lot of people aren’t the biggest fans of fish, and if you’re one of them, no problem. The thing is, salmon has a vast array of health benefits. Besides omega-3 fatty acids, it has protein, B vitamins, potassium, selenium, and antioxidants. Try a poke bowl and fall in love with this superfood fish.
There are many ways to enjoy this delicious food. Have it baked, mashed or create oven cooked wedges. Sweet potatoes are jammed packed with vitamin A and C as well as many other minerals. A great lower calorie alternative to something like rice. They will keep you full and have you energised throughout your day.
